The International Maritime Organization

A website and interactive exhibition for the International Maritime Organization

Particularly Sensitive Sea Areas

An interactive exhibition currently running at the International Maritime Organization HQ in London. The exhibition highlights conservation areas worldwide and the reasons for their creation.

The challenge

The project offered a generous budget, but making a website, info kiosks and printed displays work together coherently isn't easy. The challenges involved project management, design, accessibility and dealing with changing priorities. Keeping track of hundreds of items of content (graphics, texts, documents, videos and animations) required careful documentation and efficient processes.

We met these challenges by simplifying the project themes and design so that content could be re-used in multiple formats. Constant dialogue with the IMO and contractors allowed for change. We developed look and feel early in the process, and created structures that allowed the addition of new conservation areas relatively easily.

My role

  • Working with exhibition subcontractors to create the physical displays.
  • Designing the website and touchscreen kiosk content, using HTML5, javascript and CSS
  • Sourcing multimedia content - photography and video. Editing for print using Adobe Illustrator
